HoST and MiR come together to reshape the realm of hotel housekeeping
Regardless of the brand, location or property size, cleanliness is a critical factor in the hotel industry; one that can make or break its reputation. This year, cleanliness got personal. What a difference a pandemic can make?
A key challenge that hotels are currently facing is to focus on disinfecting all surfaces
regularly and completely, from every angle, and throughout multiple hotel rooms and large areas, day after day. With more complex cleaning protocols and playbooks in place, hotels are focused on rebuilding consumer confidence. But manually dispensing aerosol disinfectants comes with the risk of compromising on hotel housekeepers’ safety. And this is where automation can come in as a viable solution that can help mitigate danger when it comes to disinfection initiatives.
Indeed, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) are stepping up in the cleanliness game. As battery-operated mobile platforms with sophisticated software, AMRs are able to navigate safely and efficiently through any indoor environment — which makes it suitable for hotels. Some of these disinfecting robots are used to dispense aerosol chemicals quickly, safely, and reliably in environments that are primarily composed of hard surfaces. But common chemicals that are safe for hard surfaces may damage soft surfaces such as carpets and fabrics, and other exposed items in hotel rooms. And this is where a growing number of disinfecting robots are coming to market with UV light fixtures.
Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) and HoST have been at the forefront of this revolution; driving industry-leading innovation that will reshape the role and realm of hotel housekeeping. HoST have designed a UV-C top module for plug and play on the MiR AMR, a safe and cost-effective mobile robot that quickly automates internal transportation, and optimises workflows, including cleaning cycles. The UV-C Lamps can eradicate many pathogens including coronavirus with a 99.9% confidence level.
But what precisely is the science behind this? UV-C light is able to break down the DNA and RNA structure of bacteria and viruses, leaving them unable to reproduce and therefore, dead. There are currently solutions that use UV light and ozone in an air handling unit that can be used around people to disinfect the air.
As prolonged exposure to UV-C light isn’t safe for humans, autonomous mobile robots built with disinfection top module such as the one from MiR and HoST present an ideal solution to this issue.
Leveraging UV-C disinfection robots allows the disinfection of large areas at a short amount of time without any worry of inconsistency. UV-C disinfection robots, which can be deployed with ease, are also fully autonomous to do scheduled disinfection without exposing an operator to do chemical disinfection.
