Sonepar Looks to the Future on World Environment Day

Sonepar has developed a long-term sustainable development strategy and counts on playing a key role in promoting a circular economy.

Today is World Environment Day, a day for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. The digital transformation and the energy transition are bringing huge opportunities – for our planet, our customers and our business. Those who don’t embrace it risk being left behind.

Upon the impulse of its family shareholding and the expectations from customers, end users, suppliers, associates and future talents, Sonepar has developed a long-term sustainable development strategy and counts on playing a key role in promoting a circular economy.

Companies across the Sonepar Group are aiming to become energy-efficient to facilitate the energy transition in the building industry, and striving daily to reduce its international carbon footprint.

Sustainable progress can be seen across the globe, for example in 2019 Excel, a Mayflex company, converted all product packaging to 100% recyclable materials, Sonepar Deutschland was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Energy Management, and Codale in the USA is scheduled to complete construction on a housing complex this November which will run completely on solar energy.

At the end of last year, the Group established the Sustainability Leadership Committee (SLC). Matt Pothecary, Chief Communications Officer and Sustainability said of the SLC, “Sustainable development is at the very core of Impact, our strategic business plan.” He continued, “We took stock of all our in-house sustainable development actions and set up a Sustainability Leadership Committee. The Committee is made up of 20 in-house Group specialists who share their countries’ sustainable development experiences to help us progress better in this sector, wherever we operate.”
