Overview

The customer was looking for a solution for servers with SAN storage that is simple, autonomous, good maintenance support throughout 5 years contract, and has an uptime of 99.999%.

Challenges

Customers frequently encountered multiple unplanned downtimes using commodity servers that caused the information to be lost during a moment of time during the reboot process. The information data is very critical for research and production, else, a few batches of medicine would need to be thrown away which directly reflects on the company’s revenue.

1. On average, the Facilities side encountered an unplanned downtime due to App crash of 2 – 3 times a year for a duration of 45 minutes.
2. On average, the IT side encountered an unplanned downtime of 1 – 2 times a year for a duration of 30 minutes.
3. On an average, server replacement/ year due to hardware malfunction is about 6hours/server/year.
4. Customers do not keep spare and thus reliant on the vendor on-site replacement schedule which is approx. ~ 4 hours.
5. This reflects a total of estimate ~ 285 hours/year = 4.75 days.

Solutions

Stratus ftServers offer a 99.999% uptime. The Stratus Fault Tolerant architecture enables both the Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) to run in Active-Active mode whereby the switchover time would almost be unnoticeable. No data loss at all during the switchover. Stratus Maintenance Plan also offers an easy to replace CRU with the delivery of 3 – 5 working days and guarantees a replacement throughout the contract. This maintenance plan also covers a 24 X 7 Active Phone Support with a Response time of 4 hours on site.

Impact

The customer has been running the servers and both the IT and Facilities side have reported zero unplanned downtime. HoST is supplying a quarterly on-site maintenance check to ensure the server condition by providing hardware performance reports.
